Rhodes pounded 13 hits and rode an 11 strikeout performance by Senior Dana Bartolomei, knocking off SCAC rival Hendrix 11-4 in game 1. The Warriors bounced back to take the nightcap 5-3.
With the game tied at 1 in the 3rd, Senior Amanda Lutzy reach on an error by the right fielder, then scored on an RBI double by Bartolomei. Bartolomei scored on a sacrifice fly by Sophomore Rebekah Moore, then Freshman Sara Bowen walked and Freshman Olivia Ryan singled to put runners on first and second with 2 outs. Sophomore Armanda Venezia delivered a 2 out double to cap off a 4-run 3rd inning, giving the Lynx a 5-1 lead.
Hendrix picked up a run in the bottom half of the 3rd and one in the 4th to cut the lead to 5-3, but Rhodes added 6 runs on 6 hits over the final three frames to claim their first SCAC victory of the season. Bartolomei went the distance in the circle, giving up 7 hits and striking out 11, surrendering only 3 earned runs.
Rhodes started game 2 where they left off in game 1, with singles by Lutzy and Bartolomei followed by a 2-run double by Moore, but Hendrix starter Sara Hightower settled in to retire 15 of the next 16 Lynx hitters. Hendrix scored 4 runs in the 3rd on a pair of 2-run homers, and added another run in the 5th to give them a 5-2 lead.
With one out in the 6th, Bartolomei singled for the Lynx, and later scored on a single by Sophomore Colleen Jones to cut the Warrior lead to 5-3. Jennifer Whatley and Allison Conn each singled in the 7th for the Lynx, putting the go-ahead run at the plate with 2 outs. Bartolomei hit a sharp grounder to the Warrior third basemen, who snagged the ball and stepped on third for the final out.
Sara Bowen took the loss in the circle for the Lynx, giving up 5 runs on 8 hits while striking out 10.
On the day, Conn was 4-9 with 3 doubles, and RBI and a run scored, while Ryan picked up 3 hits on the day, including her first collegiate home run. Bartolomei, Venezia and Whatley each had 3 hits for the Lynx on the day, pacing an offense that pounded out 21 hits in the 2 games.
Rhodes is now 8-12 on the season and 1-5 in the SCAC. Rhodes and Hendrix will square off again tomorrow at Noon.
